Easter Activities in Livingstone, Zambia

Do fluffy bunnies and chocolate come to mind when someone mentions Easter? What about world famous waterfalls, rhinos and cocktails? If you are from Zambia, you likely know that Easter is one of the best weekends to get to Livingstone for a mini-vacation.

Easter’s exact date changes every year, but it is always a Zambian public holiday on the Friday (Good Friday), Saturday (Holy Saturday) and Monday (Easter Monday). This means that most people will get an extra-long weekend to get out of their big cities and enjoy all of the fun in Zambia’s tourist capital. We are going to show you some of the best activities to do this Easter weekend in Livingstone.

When is Easter in Zambia?

Easter falls on different days every year; however, it is set on the first Sunday after the first full moon of the Spring Equinox in the Northern hemisphere or Winter Equinox in the Southern hemisphere. Although the equinox’s scientific date fluctuates, it has been set by the Christian Church as being March 21st annually.

Why is Easter a good time to come to Livingstone?

Easter is a holiday that we traditionally spend with family; however, this doesn’t mean that you have to celebrate together at home. A family holiday is a fantastic way to create memories and ensure that toddlers, teenagers, parents and grandparents are all entertained. Livingstone has something for everyone to enjoy, whether they want to go wild on adventure sports, head off on safari, shop till they drop or relax by the pool.

What is the Victoria Falls like at Easter?

The wet season in Livingstone is nearing the end by late March or early April every year. This means that the bush is gorgeously lush and green, the sun is typically shining, and the weather is starting to cool slightly. The water at Victoria Falls is also pumping at Easter, which makes for an entertaining pictures of the family! Ensure that you are ready to get wet!

What can I do with kids in Livingstone at Easter?

All of the tourism activities on offer in Livingstone are available over the Easter long weekend, including on the public holidays. We highly recommend a trip to the Livingstone Museum and the truly amazing Forest of Faces tree sculptures erected in front of the Civic Centre. A short walk through historic Livingstone town will take you to the Mukuni Craft Market, where you can barter for some innovative, locally produced souvenirs.

Children love going on a trip to the Crocodile Park where feeding happens at 3 pm on public holidays. Consider treating your family to a breakfast, lunch or sunset cruise on the Zambezi River, where you can witness the most gorgeous sunsets in the country with a gin and tonic in hand. If you are aiming to get your teenagers away from their iPads, then a Segway Tour with the whole family around the Avani Hotel complex will do the trick. Children from as young as seven years will love having their own wheels.

Family vacations are about making lifelong memories and ensuring everyone has a great time. The Easter weekend is a fantastic time to gather your family and head to Livingstone for a much-need mini-break. Consider booking yourself in for a family photo shoot with one of Livingstone’s many talented photographers while you are all together.
