Test Your Limits in Livingstone, Africa’s Adrenaline Capital

Queenstown is arguably the birthplace of some of the most outlandish extreme activities the world has ever seen. It’s many of those same crazy kiwis that travelled to the sleepy town of Livingstone back in the 1980s and could see the untapped potential.

The stunning natural landscape and wild Zambezi River were ideal for getting these pioneers their next kick of adrenaline. Fast forward forty years and Livingstone is now a booming town that welcomes tourists from all over the globe.

Livingstone is known as Africa’s Adventure Capital, and for a good reason! If you’ve got some bucket list items that you want to tick off, or just love a good thrill, then check this out. We are here to show how you can test your limits in Livingstone with these epic adrenaline-pumping adventures.

Microlighting

Microlight

Have you ever imagined flying through the air like a bird and letting the thermals lift you higher as you soar over the Earth?  We think that microlighting is as close you can get to safely having that rush.

You and the pilot will be the only ones on board the aircraft as you smoothly ascend over Victoria Falls and the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park. You’ll then have breathtaking views of the Zambian landscape below, and you might even catch hippos in the water or elephants grazing. There is no more unobstructed view of Victoria Falls than when flying in a microlight.

White Water Rafting

Raft

Rafting on the Zambezi started in the 1980s in boats that only genuine adrenaline seekers (or the foolishly brave) would ever consider boarding. Today, this extreme sport has world-class safety standards and is arguably the best one-day rafting trip on the planet. With names like ‘The Muncher’ and ‘Stairway to Heaven’, you know you are going to be in for one wild ride!

If one day of rafting is this much fun, then a multiday trip must be even better! Join onto an existing departure date or grab some friends for the ultimate weekend adventure. This is a fantastic idea for a bachelor party or corporate team building activity.

Bungee Jumping

Bungee

You’ve seen Victoria Falls from the top in a microlight, and the bottom on a raft, so now it’s time to see the waterfall upside down. The Shearwater Victoria Falls Bungee is located on the historic Victoria Falls Bridge that spans the Batoka Gorge linking Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Those who can never get enough of a good thing, think about pushing your limits with the Big Air Experience: a bungee jump, a bridge swing and a bridge slide (zip line)! You won’t need a visa, but do carry your passport as identification and to gain access.

Livingstone Island

LIV-island

We are yet to find anything on the planet that compares to the unique thrill of being perched on the edge of the Victoria Falls. Livingstone Island is home to naturally forming swimming pools, the most famous of which is the Devil’s Pool.

Found only in Zambia, The Devil’s Pool right on the lip of the Victoria Falls with over 100 meters between you and where the water crashes into the Zambezi River below. The best time to visit is when the water levels are at their lowest around September through to December.

White Water Kayaking

Kayak

Our Zambian superhuman kayakers are employed to work as safety kayakers alongside the commercial rafting trips. In their spare time, you’ll catch them doing tricks and boofs and daring each other to go through the infamous Rapid Number 9; a grade six rapid called ‘Commercial Suicide’ that has made many Zambezi legends.

The Zambezi River is also the playground for many of the world’s leading white-water kayakers. Don’t be surprised to see famous faces like Red Bull athletes training in the Batoka Gorge and enjoying the natural beauty and raw adrenaline that the Zambezi provides.
